It was an amazing trial, especially given the circumstances. Only one of the two judges could make it to the trial because of travel restrictions. She judged it all and things ran smoothly although long. She went from one ring to do standard to the other for jumpers then back. Helpers did a great job of setting up courses and letting us walk courses while she was at the other course. When she got back to the ring she did some minor tweaks and then went right to briefing and judging. We did not Q with either dog but I accomplished my goal of getting though a trail together as a team. My first run was Dawson, my 2 year old with a whole summer of agility training. We refused the second jump twice in favor of the A-Frame. Reviewing the video showed that I was facing the A-Frame when I asked him to do the jump so he clearly was not focused on the jump :) He also knocked the bar of the double jump and ran over the broad jump (he's seen that kind of jump one whole time before this though). I was very pleased with the run since he ran with me and gave me great attention with all the distractions. He went into the tunnel which is not always his favorite and he downed on the table.
Nutmeg got to run 5 dogs later and did a great job. She refused one jump, a solid jump that we do not have in class. She also ran about 15 seconds over time. The good news was that she downed on the hard table and stayed down. She likes to hover with her elbows just off the surface so this was a major victory.
One of the things I noticed with the dogs is that I didn't feel as out of breath after running the course as I do in class. I actually paused at the table and wondered if I had skipped part of the course as it seemed to be over so fast. |
